Brookfield Central DECA's Wish Week 2017

Brookfield Central DECA hosted its first ever Wish Week this year from Dec. 4-8 to fundraise for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. BC DECA connected with other organizations in the school to make a greater impact on its students and on this great charity.

Wisconsin DECA has an annual letter writing initiative that numerous schools, including BC get involved with annually. This year we decided to weave that event in with Wish Week. We had students throughout the school write letters to Santa in their classes and at DECA meetings. In the end, we were able to submit 430 letters! With the Macy’s letter writing campaign, this translates to $430 donated to Make-A-Wish.

Something new our chapter did this year was adopt a Wish child to fundraise for. Ours was a 9-year old boy named Mathias who wanted to attend Jedi training in Disney. To help fund his trip, our chapter teamed up with BC National Honor Society to hold a cupcake war. Each organization had members bring in baked goods to sell for $1 during lunch. By engaging NHS members we were able to raise more money and awareness for our cause. We also had miracle minutes during lunch to collect loose change from students and a fundraising event during half time of our Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball games against our town rivals. By fundraising at a sporting event we were able to collect from parents, adults in the community, and students from Brookfield Central and Brookfield East. In total we were able to donate $432.73 for Mathias.

Overall, by hosting these various events BC DECA made an important impact on the community and on its students. Raising awareness and money for such a worthy cause was an amazing opportunity and we hope to expand this event in the coming years. To learn more visit
