Abby Sharp

West Salem DECA | Junior | VP Public Relations

Abby Sharp

My name is Abby Sharp and I've been an active participant in West Salem's DECA chapter since my freshman year. I love the career development and competition that comes with DECA, and this year I'm enthusiastic about being an officer in my chapter. During competition season, you can expect to find me taking practice tests (I took over 15 last year)! Other extracurriculars I'm involved in include NHS, Student Council, band (I play both tuba and trombone) and theatre. I also enjoy sewing, gardening, and hanging out with my dogs. I'm looking forward to a Limitless year in Leadership Council!

Abhinav Janamanchi

Sun Prairie DECA | Junior | VP of Public Relations

Abhinav Janamanchi

My name is Abhinav Janamanchi and I am from Sun Prairie DECA. I have the pleasure of being a junior at Sun Prairie High School, with two years of involvement in my chapter. My competition experience so far has been diverse and enjoyable. I had the opportunity to compete at Districts, State, and ICDC as a freshman, and I attended competition at Districts again my sophomore year. DECA has helped me develop professional, social, and academic skills that I will use throughout the rest of my life. I am so grateful that I have been involved in DECA the past few years, because it helped me find a group of people that I have come to regard as my second family: the SPHS chapter. DECA has taught me that I already have strength and skill on my own, but with the right people by my side, I can do and be so much more than I ever could alone. Although DECA has become a huge part of my life, I manage to keep quite a few extracurriculars around. I am a member of the SPHS Forensics team, the PBIS school council, and SPHS’s  FBLA chapter, along with my role as Vice President of Public Relations this year in DECA. I also participate in the High School Math League and play on my school’s varsity tennis team in the spring. I love to read, run, and play tennis in my free time. I’ve been pretty busy with school and my extracurriculars, so I haven’t really had a chance to find a job yet even though I am 15 now. But I would like to work as a tutor or at the movie theatre here in Sun Prairie. If I ever get free time in my busy schedule, I enjoy it by listening to music and (attempt at) singing along.

Abby Fickel

Arrowhead DECA | Junior | VP of Competitive Events

Abby Fickel

Hi, I'm Abby Fickel! I am the VP of Competitive Events in the Arrowhead DECA chapter. I am a junior and this is my second year participating in DECA. Last year, I went to SCDC and placed 3rd and 4th in my written and role play events, respectively. I went to ICDC in Anaheim and ended up placing top 10 in my project! It was an amazing experience that really cemented my love for DECA. I also am a competitive swimmer, part of NHS, Student Senate, Key Club, Best Buddies and Junior States of America. In my free time, I love to read, eat good food, travel the world, and spend time with my friends, family, and new puppy! I am so excited to be a part of the Leadership Council this year.

Joining DECA as a small freshman I had no idea the countless opportunities that DECA offers, however this organization has truly transformed my high school career. Andrew Tai

Sussex-Hamilton DECA | Senior | School Store Manager

Drew Tai

Hello WI Leadership Council! I’m Drew Tai and I’m a senior at Sussex-Hamilton High School. This is my fourth year in DECA, and I have to say it’s been an interesting journey. I joined out of pure interest during my freshman year, and I decided to compete at Districts without knowing anything. Well, it turned out as you would think, but it got me thinking about how to improve for the next year. When sophomore year Districts came around, I studied a lot harder with my roleplay partner, and ended up placing at Districts and going to State. At the end of that year at State, my partner and I set what we thought was an unrealistic goal to make it to ICDC next year. When the next competitive season came around, we ended up improving to placing at State and unexpectedly earning a spot to Anaheim. Even though we only came out of ICDC with a medal, we still had the time of our lives. However, competition has not been the only aspect of DECA I’ve participated in. From Trick-or-Can at our chapter to leading our successful 2016-2017 Membership Initiative as VP, DECA as a whole has grown on me, and I want to leave it better than I came in. I’ve been a participant in many DECA events as well in order to build my networking skills like ELC, Wisconsin DECA COW, and Ignite Leadership Academy. Speaking of COW, the one thing that made it the best experience for me was becoming COW King in 2016. I still have my inner tube displayed in my bedroom! Outside of DECA, I mostly spend my time traveling, reading, playing piano, and hanging out with my friends. I plan to major in Finance or Business Management next fall at a currently undecided university. I wish Wisconsin DECA Leadership Council a successful year!

Anna Michalski

Oregon DECA | Junior | VP of Professional Development

Anna Michalski

Hello Wisconsin DECA! My name is Anna Michalski. I am currently a junior at Oregon High School, where I serve as the Vice President of Professional Development of our chapter. DECA has had an incredible impact on my life. I have been lucky enough to travel to both state and ICDC, which have all been amazing experiences. DECA has introduced me to my best friends, many of which live outside Wisconsin. Outside of DECA I am a member of diversity club, orchestra, and Spanish-Service club at my high school. I also play the cello and the piano, and I have been a part of 2 musicals at my high school. I spend a lot of time with my family, especially my twin sister. My biggest passion is helping others, and I look forward to a mission trip to Belize this winter, and also spending my years after high school with international volunteer work. This year in my DECA chapter and within Wisconsin DECA as a whole, my goal is to connect with new members, and try to cultivate within them the love of DECA that I have found over the past years. I am so excited to be a part of Leadership Council and show all members what DECA has to offer. It is my hope that every DECA member will be able to realize and achieve their own DECA goals, guided by the leadership of Wisconsin DECA. I am so excited for an amazing year with Wisconsin DECA!

DECA has made me a better student and person in many ways. I have done so much more volunteering and random acts of kindness since I've joined DECA. DECA has taught me leadership skills and how to be calm and collective in front of large groups of people. It has given me the chance to make plenty of new friends inside our chapter and also from schools all over the state. DECA had also given me the chance to go to new cities and make memories with some really awesome people. I'm glad we are able to have such an amazing organization that wants to do awesome things for us.

Oregon DECA | Junior | Co-VP of Chapter Development

Kristen Acuña Huete

My name is Kristen Acuña-Huete and I am currently a Junior at Oregon High School and this 2017-2018 school year will be my second year in DECA. Initially, I joined DECA because I found it really interesting and one of my friends was an officer our sophomore year. I had joined DECA at a time when I was uncertain about my future career plans, but as the year progressed, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in business. The first event that I had attended was the Emerging Leaders Conference, a fun conference in which I learned networking skills. Later in the year, I competed in Principles of Business Management at both districts and state. Then, in May 2017, I ran to be an officer for the OHS DECA chapter. Jenna Sharkus and I became the co-VPs of Chapter Development. This year, Megdalen Edwards and I plan to compete in Business Law and Ethics, as well as present a business plan at State. Aside from giving me the opportunity to achieve amazing things, DECA has helped me tremendously with confidence. I have become more confident when speaking to adults and teenagers alike. I have always struggled with being a shy person and I feel that DECA has helped me break out of my shell and will continue to make a lasting impact on my life.

Hi, I am Lauren Christensen and I am a junior at Wilmot. My life consists of Relay for Life, Student Government, and DECA! I am the Chairperson and Wilmot’s representative for Central Relay for Life, and the class of 2019 secretary. But my passion is DECA. As Wilmot's DECA president my primary goal is to share my passion with new and returning members, and lead the organization to success at the state and national levels. In the past years, I have served as Wilmot's VP of Brand Management, and lead initiatives such as Trick or Can, and participation in MDA. I am excited for a successful year with Wisconsin DECA!

Hi! My name is Maanya Kashyap, and I am the Vice President of Event Management for the Hamilton Sussex DECA chapter. I am currently a sophomore. Madeline Fitzgerald

Oregon DECA | Senior |Chapter President

Maddie Fitzgerald

Hello, I am Maddie Fitzgerald and I am a Senior at Oregon High School. This year I am serving as President of OHS DECA for the 2nd year in a row. My three years in DECA have been some of the most fun and rewarding years for me! My Sophomore year I completed a community service business plan which assisted students in poverty in the Oregon School District. This past year I continued and grow my efforts in the community, and competed again with a CSP and placed 3rd at ICDC. After doing two Community Service projects my eyes were opened to the need in my own community, and I am working to start a non-profit organization with another DECA member. I have loved to be able to work with Oregon's Chapter Officer team and am looking forward to getting DECA members excited about competition.  Aside from DECA, I enjoy skiing, volunteering, traveling, and binge watching some Netflixs. I am really looking to forward to having a fun year in DECA, and Leadership Council!

Within my chapter I am the VP of Membership and Communications. Although somewhat new to the DECA scene, I am a veteran on all three levels of competition in the Business Finance Series Event. This year I hope to increase membership in my school’s DECA chapter among underclassmen as well as helping members become more competitively successful. I look forward to this year in Wisconsin DECA as a member of the Leadership Council!

Makayla O’Brien

Glenwood City DECA | Senior | President

Makayla O'Brien

Hi, my name is Makayla O’Brien and I’m a senior at Glenwood City High School this year! I’ve been involved in DECA since sophomore year and am currently serving as Glenwood City’s chapter president. I qualified for ICDC sophomore year by winning the Principles of Hospitality and Tourism event at state and got to compete in Nashville, TN which was an amazing experience. (Fun fact: our bus broke down on the way home from ICDC so we spent 4 hours on the side of the interstate in Kentucky!) Last year, I competed in the Hotel and Lodging Management event and qualified for state but unfortunately did not advance. Outside of DECA, I run cross country, track and field, and I can also ride a unicycle.

Mariah Lesar

Mount Horeb DECA | Junior

Mariah Lesar

I am a junior at Mount Horeb High School this year and a third year DECA member. My freshmen year I was an extremely active intern and the following year an officer of Community Service. This year I have decided to take a step back from being an officer of a specific branch, and instead focus on the Leadership Council. Although DECA is a hugepart of my life, the biggest part of my life is my family. I am the fourth child in a family of six kids. Being a big sister has played a huge role in who I am today as my older siblings are out of the house so I am another mom to them. After high school I'm hoping to RICE University to study medicine and eventually pursue my dream of being an orthopedic pediatric surgeon someday.

Morgan Bolz

Hi, I am Morgan Bolz, a junior at Wausau West high school this year, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to be a part of WI DECA Leadership Council for the upcoming school year! I have had an unexplainable love for DECA ever since starting high school. I had just intended on meeting new people and getting involved in a school club, but little did I know I'd be going out of my comfort zone and competing my sophomore year at districts and making it to state. I love how DECA is honestly for anyone, and I love that I am able to be a role model in this organization. Besides DECA-related activities I am involved in many other things including Wausau West Drama, Link Crew, and Student Council. My family is also a huge part of my life, they push me to be the best I can be, and with that I am ready to make this year EPIC.

Sara Christenson

Oregon DECA | Sophomore | VP of Competitive Excellence

Sara Christenson

Hello everyone!  My name is Sara Christenson.  I am currently a sophomore at Oregon High School, where I serve as our Chapter’s Vice President of Competitive Excellence.  I can honestly say that joining DECA has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.  If you told a younger me that I would compete and place at all three levels of competition my Freshman year, I wouldn’t have believed you.  Even upon joining at the beginning of last school year, I never would have imagined all of the amazing experiences DECA would open up to me.  Between conferences, travelling to Anaheim, meeting the extraordinary people both within my chapter and the rest of Wisconsin DECA, and so much more, I could not feel more fortunate.  Outside of DECA, I spend most of my year playing both school and club volleyball, as well as running track.  But in my free time I love to spend time with my family and friends.  This year in DECA, my goal for my chapter is to increase the number of State and International qualifiers, as well as share my love for this incredible organization. I am so excited to be a part of Leadership Council, with the hope that I can encourage and inspire others to reach their own DECA and future career goals.  I can’t wait to meet everyone involved, and see what this year brings!

Savannah Holt

Hi Leadership Council!  My name is Savannah Holt and I am the President of Whitnall DECA.  This is my first year involved with the Leadership Council and my fourth year with DECA.  My goals for DECA this year are to go to ICDC for Buying and Merchandising Team, increase participation in my chapter, and learn more about the ongoings of WI DECA State.  Aside from DECA I enjoy running Varsity Cross Country, spending time with my family, watching Netflix, reading, and traveling.  When I was eight I moved to Europe for three years where I lived in England and Switzerland.  This experience led me to strongly consider business as a major in college.  I would like to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison for International Business, Marketing, and Spanish.  I am very excited to be working with all of you this school year and cannot wait to get to know everyone better!

Sophia Reddan

Madison West DECA | Senior | Co-VP Social Media

Hello! My name is Sophia Reddan and I am a senior at Madison West High School. I hesitantly joined DECA the fall of my junior year and have since fallen in love with the club. Last year I competed all the way to ICDC in Anaheim, California with my fellow competitor, Sean Quinn, and loads of help from our wonderful advisor, Lauren Cole. This year I will take on the role of VP of Social Media as one of Madison West DECA’s seven officers. Aside from DECA, I am a member of the National Honor Society, as a blood drive coordinator, I am the president of Madison West’s Diversity Alliance, and I coach small children through a local soccer program, Millennium Soccer.
